This will be my first time in Venice. I have wanted to visit Venice in the past but have always been put off by its reputation of being expensive. Anyway, I decided that this summer I would take my son and try not to spend too much.
The return tickets from Milano Centrale cost €58 for the two of us. After searching for an enormous amount of time, I decided that I was not willing to pay almost €300 for a hotel in Venice city which may have been tiny and old, and without services. Maybe the hotels are part of the charm but I look for comfort in a hotel.
We booked the Holiday Inn in Mestra Marghera for €190 including breakfast. That's for 2 adults (my husband has decided to come along) and 1 child. The reviews on Tripadvisor have been mixed but I've chosen it because of price and wanting to be away from the confusion I imagine Venice to be. Also the services to Venice City are supposed to be nearby. I'll let you know what we think of it.
Finally, as we are travelling to Venice around lunchtime I have prepared a packed lunch so we do not have to buy anything on board.
